Ella Hunt balances grief and a double release, starring in Mindy Kaling’s Hulu comedy while debuting her album Blindspot

Ella Hunt is simultaneously stepping into a high-visibility television run and launching her own music career, a convergence she described as both tightly scheduled and emotionally demanding. In a recent interview, the English actress and singer said her summer has moved unusually quickly, with the Hulu comedy Not Suitable for Work arriving alongside a debut album release that she has characterized as deeply personal.

Not Suitable for Work premiered on June 2 on Hulu, with Hunt returning to TV as AJ Pascarelli in the 20-something ensemble described as set in Manhattan’s Murray Hill. Three days later, Hunt released Blindspot, her debut album, tightening what she said is usually a rhythm of spacing out promotion and taking time to decompress between milestones.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter on a Zoom during the busy stretch, Hunt said she is used to having “a moment to breathe” when she puts something out. She said the week that paired the new series attention with the album release brought a “whole wave of newness” that she had “not experienced before,” adding that she had not yet reached the point where she could step back to “water my garden and sit with my cats” and take in audience response.

Hunt described efforts to find pockets of time to reset while also keeping up with overlapping responsibilities, saying she was proud of herself for “spinning both of the central plates” in her life at the same time. She also said she did not necessarily plan for the work to overlap at this scale, pointing to the practical realities of launching a music project alongside a major TV schedule.

The Hollywood Reporter reported that Hunt locked in the album’s release date months in advance, including June 5 timing that she said was partly driven by the requirements of vinyl releases. Wonderland Magazine later framed the album’s long development as spanning years and said the record reflects grief connected to the passing of her half-sister, Emily, describing the album as an “excavation of grief” rooted in Hunt’s earlier musical formation at a childhood home in North Devon.

In the same reporting, Wonderland described the broader context of her month as unusually compressed for an actress juggling two major projects, citing how filming and press activities intersected with other personal plans. Neither outlet suggested the schedule was driven by any outside industry or platform dispute, focusing instead on how standard release logistics and show-and-album promotion can collide.

With Not Suitable for Work now in streaming circulation and Blindspot released and public, Hunt’s next public appearances and press cycles will likely continue to draw attention to the crossover between her acting and music work. For audiences, the timing means listeners and viewers are consuming both projects in parallel, with Hunt describing the overlap as an adjustment rather than a leisurely campaign rollout.
