Larry David says White House UFC event made him “embarrassed to be an American”

“Seinfeld” co-creator Larry David said he was “embarrassed to be an American” after attending the “UFC Freedom 250” event held on the White House lawn, according to remarks reported Tuesday.

David made the comments in connection with an interview about his work and the fights from the UFC event. He spoke with Variety about the bouts, and the interview aired alongside the premiere of his HBO sketch series “Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America,” the same day as the reported White House-lawn criticism.

The remarks did not include any stated changes to policy or any legal action tied to the event. Instead, the episode centered on David’s personal reaction to the setting, with the outlet describing his characterization of the experience.

While David’s comments reflect a broader public debate about how and whether major entertainment or sports events should take place on federal property, the reported record does not indicate that any complaint was filed, that federal agencies were asked to review the decision, or that any court proceeding was initiated.

The White House has previously published presidential messages for milestone commemorations, including “America 250” themed statements in June 2026, according to White House pages. However, the supplied reporting record for David’s remarks is focused on his reaction to the UFC event rather than on any specific presidential message or governing rationale.

The next developments that could clarify the administrative side would include a documented explanation from the White House or the relevant agencies about the event’s hosting authority, security planning, and any public-facing guidance for events on the White House grounds, none of which is confirmed in the provided reporting.
