The far-right influencer told followers on X to “hear me out” as The Hill reported that Zacharia was removed from the White House press secretary job after about five days.
Laura Loomer publicly lobbied to become the next White House press secretary, according to a report from The Hill published October 16. Loomer made the case in three separate posts on X, posting the message “Here me out: Press Secretary Laura Loomer,” after The Hill reported that Katie Zacharia was removed from the role late Friday after a short tenure.
The White House has previously posted an account of Zacharia’s first days in the job. On October 13, the White House published a release titled “Katie Zacharia Delivers Powerful Inaugural Briefing as the 37th White House Press Secretary,” describing an early briefing delivered by Zacharia that drew extensive coverage. That contrasts with the timeline reported by The Hill, which says her tenure ended after only five days.
The Hill’s report frames Loomer’s attempt as an effort to put herself forward for the communications role at the center of daily White House messaging and press interactions. Loomer’s posts did not include an official nomination or appointment process, and the report does not provide an official timeline for any selection beyond the assertion that Zacharia had been ousted.
White House press secretaries are typically selected through internal personnel decisions by senior White House officials, with changes often communicated through official White House announcements or by updates to briefing rosters. In this case, with no appointment announcement included in the available records, the lobbying appears to be aimed at influencing who might be considered rather than documenting a confirmed decision.
The practical stakes for the role are immediate: the press secretary coordinates with the White House communications operation on answering questions, handling press briefings, and setting day-to-day messaging. A rapid change, if confirmed, can affect how quickly journalists receive consistent information from the briefing process and how staffers align on policy messaging across agencies.
A further point is the process for confirming personnel changes in senior White House communications roles. Until an official White House statement names a successor, the only confirmed elements in the available record are that the White House posted material about Zacharia’s briefing in mid-October and that The Hill reported her removal, alongside Loomer’s public push to be considered.
