Deputies said a patrol deputy observed an SUV weaving on Interstate 75 early Sunday and made a traffic stop that led to an arrest for driving under the influence.
A Laurel County deputy arrested Kaamel Hasaun, known publicly as the “King of Tubi,” on a DUI charge following a traffic stop on Interstate 75 early Sunday morning, according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.
The agency said the stop began after a deputy observed an SUV weaving on I-75 and initiated a traffic stop. Investigators later determined that Hasaun should be arrested on suspicion of DUI, and he was taken into custody at the conclusion of the stop.
The Sheriff’s Office did not indicate in its initial report what specific driving behavior prompted the stop beyond the reported weaving, nor did it describe the results of any field tests in the published account. It also did not provide, in the initial reporting, the suspected level of impairment or the method used to measure alcohol or drugs.
Hasaun’s arrest stems from the deputy’s observations on a major north-south corridor connecting Kentucky’s communities. DUI arrests in that context are routinely tied to concerns about impaired driving risks to other drivers, passengers, and nearby residents, particularly when traffic movement is otherwise normal for early morning hours.
After a DUI arrest, the case typically proceeds through the local court system, where prosecutors decide whether to file or pursue charges and where the defendant may face requirements related to bond conditions and future appearances. The Sheriff’s Office said Hasaun was arrested, but the reporting did not detail his court date or bond status.
The DUI charge adds to the continuing enforcement effort by Kentucky law enforcement agencies to identify impaired drivers and remove them from roadways. Under Kentucky law, DUI cases often turn on documented observations from the stop and the results of testing procedures conducted after an arrest.
As the Laurel County case moves forward, court records will be the next source for specifics such as the formal charge language filed by prosecutors, any testing results referenced in charging documents, and whether the defense contests probable cause or suppression issues. Additional details may also emerge from standard pretrial scheduling as the matter is handled by the court.
Residents in the area may see increased patrol presence along major routes like I-75 as agencies continue to target impaired driving, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours when visibility and driver fatigue can increase risk for crashes.
