Louisville Metro Police Department said its traffic unit has seen more hazardous driving on the Second Street Bridge than usual and asked drivers to reduce speed and follow roadway instructions.
Louisville Metro Police Department is warning motorists to slow down on the Clark Memorial Bridge, saying its traffic unit has observed more dangerous driving on the Second Street Bridge than usual.
In a Facebook post Tuesday, LMPD said the increased risk is prompting enforcement-focused attention on the bridge and urged drivers to take extra care when traveling through the area.
LMPD did not provide details in the posting about specific crashes, injuries, or enforcement counts, but the department’s message emphasizes that driver behavior on the span has been more concerning recently.
The Clark Memorial Bridge carries traffic across the Ohio River between Louisville’s downtown area and the surrounding road network, and the Second Street Bridge approach can be affected by congestion, on-ramp merging, and changing traffic conditions throughout the day.
LMPD’s traffic unit said the department is seeing unsafe driving patterns, and it asked motorists to adjust their speed to match conditions, avoid aggressive maneuvers, and obey posted indicates and lane markings while crossing the bridge.
The department’s warning is part of broader local traffic safety efforts that typically involve increased visibility and patrol attention in areas where officers believe motorists are taking unsafe risks.
Residents who regularly use the bridge are encouraged to plan for extra delays if police activity increases and to expect heightened enforcement when officers are directing traffic or responding to roadway incidents.
As of Tuesday, LMPD’s notice remained focused on driver behavior and public safety, with no further public updates on crashes or citations described in the initial announcement.
