Democratic Rep. Seth Moulton and Republican John Deaton traded sharp attacks Tuesday night in a Massachusetts U.S. Senate debate centered on immigration and Israel, while incumbent Sen. Ed Markey did not attend, according to Fox News.
A Massachusetts U.S. Senate debate between Rep. Seth Moulton and Republican challenger John Deaton turned combative Tuesday night as the two candidates exchanged sharp criticism, with the incumbent senator, Ed Markey, not appearing at the event, Fox News reported.
The debate took place as Massachusetts continues its Senate election season, with Moulton and Deaton focusing on high-salience national issues as part of their contrasting messages. Fox News said the candidates clashed over President Donald Trump, immigration, and Israel.
According to the report, the candidates’ disagreements were marked by direct, heated exchanges, with both sides using the debate to attack the other’s positions. Fox News characterized the event as “fiery.”
Fox News reported that Markey skipped the debate, setting up an absence by the sitting senator during an occasion where the top challengers sought to press their arguments directly to voters.
The reporting did not include a detailed account in its summary of specific policy proposals, vote records, or the exact language each candidate used during the exchanges over Trump, immigration, or Israel.
A debate in a statewide Senate race can affect how candidates frame issues tied to federal authority, including immigration enforcement and foreign policy priorities. With Markey absent, the contrast between the two challengers was left as the central focus of the event as described by Fox News.
