LEX 18 reports that Morehead State University’s Upward Bound program has spent six decades supporting area high schoolers with the steps needed to pursue postsecondary education.
Morehead State University’s Upward Bound program is marking more than 60 years of helping high school students from Eastern Kentucky prepare for college, according to a report from LEX 18 published Tuesday.
The Upward Bound program, housed at Morehead State, works with students in the region who want to pursue higher education after graduation. LEX 18 described the program as a long-running effort to guide students through the expectations of college and to support them as they plan for the next stage of their education.
LEX 18’s coverage characterizes Upward Bound as part of a sustained community commitment, noting that the initiative has been operating for six decades and has served multiple generations of Eastern Kentucky families.
The report focuses on how the program’s college-readiness support is designed to help students navigate the transition from high school to college. LEX 18 did not provide specific enrollment figures or a detailed list of services in its summary, but the story emphasizes that the program’s purpose is to help students find a pathway to higher education.
For Eastern Kentucky students, the timing of this kind of support is closely tied to the academic calendar. Beginning in high school, the program’s work is positioned to help students build readiness before application and enrollment deadlines, according to the themes described by LEX 18.
Morehead State’s Upward Bound also reflects the broader role of public higher education in Kentucky communities, where universities and state-supported programs often serve as hubs for academic advising, student development, and education planning.
While LEX 18 highlighted the program’s long history and mission, details including current participation counts, grade-level entry points, and the specific components offered to students were not included in the material summarized for this publication. Readers seeking program specifics may need to consult Morehead State University’s Upward Bound program materials or contact the program directly for the latest eligibility and scheduling information.
The program’s 60-year milestone underscores the continuity of educational support for students in the region, and LEX 18’s report suggests the initiative will continue operating as a resource for families looking to increase access to college.
