Reuters-Ipsos poll finds Trump approval near historic-low territory as gas prices expected to keep rising

President Donald Trump’s job approval remains near the lowest levels of his political career, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released Monday, as Americans also expressed expectations that gasoline prices will continue to rise amid the administration’s Iran war posture. The survey found 35 percent of Americans approved of Trump’s job performance in the White House.

The Reuters/Ipsos results came as the public’s economic concerns remained closely tied to energy costs. The poll reported that Americans expect gasoline prices to keep rising, and it linked the expectation in part to the Iran-related conflict, reflecting how foreign policy developments can quickly translate into household spending concerns.

The Reuters/Ipsos survey’s approval number places Trump’s support in a narrow band near earlier second-term lows. In a separate update published by Gallup on Nov. 28, 2025, Trump’s job approval had slipped to 36 percent, with disapproval at 60 percent, and Gallup reported it as the lowest of his second term at the time.

Gallup reported that Trump’s prior second-term low point for approval was 37 percent in July 2025, and his all-time low was 34 percent in 2021, following the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. The Gallup figures also showed a shift across party lines, with Republicans rating Trump more highly than independents, and Democrats giving him low single-digit ratings.

In the Reuters/Ipsos poll, the gas-price outlook functioned as a parallel measure of public sentiment. While the poll focused on consumer expectations rather than actual pump prices, it pointed to the way national security developments and market expectations can drive near-term perceptions of affordability.

Taken together, the two polling sets underscore how Trump’s approval is now being measured against both political performance and day-to-day costs. Energy price expectations are a particularly direct issue for federal policy watchers because they can be influenced by decisions affecting sanctions, military posture, and broader geopolitical risk premiums, even when the day-to-day pricing occurs through private markets.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll adds to a rolling set of approval measures frequently used by political analysts, while Gallup’s earlier reporting supplies a longer baseline for assessing how close the president’s current numbers are to previous lows. Both surveys frame the same central theme for the administration, voters are weighing foreign policy and its domestic cost impacts alongside their assessment of presidential performance.
