A Falcon 9 rocket made an appearance in the sky over Indiana and parts of Kentucky on Monday, according to local TV reports that drew viewer messages describing an unusual, jellyfish-like appearance.
A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket was reportedly visible in the night sky over Indiana and parts of Kentucky, drawing viewer reports and social media posts describing the craft as unusual and, at one point, resembling a jellyfish, WLKY reported on October 13, 2026.
WLKY said the sighting involved a Falcon 9 launch trajectory passing through the region, with the rocket’s appearance prompting questions from residents who saw light trails and moving forms across the sky. Viewers contacted the station as they watched the object move overhead, and the station later identified it as a Falcon 9.
In its coverage, WLKY tied the sighting to SpaceX activity rather than local aircraft or weather phenomena. The report emphasized that the rocket could look atypical to observers, even as it tracked along its flight path.
The appearance over Kentucky came as residents in the state shared quick reactions, with many focused on the visual character of the rocket’s motion and the shape of the light effects. WLKY’s story highlighted that the object at one point looked like a “jellyfish,” underscoring how rocket visuals can be affected by perspective, lighting, and viewing conditions.
Because the report is based on public observations and viewer messages, details such as the specific launch location, exact time stamps for Kentucky viewers, and the mission payload were not included in the WLKY account. The station’s key point was identification of the phenomenon as a Falcon 9 over the region.
For Kentucky residents who witnessed the rocket, the episode is part of a broader pattern of public reactions to commercial space launches, where observers may see bright stages, changing light, and angled trajectories that can be unfamiliar to first-time watchers.
Next steps for viewers who are still trying to reconcile what they saw are to check SpaceX mission updates and local broadcast follow-ups, which typically provide time windows and confirmation details after a flight is underway or completed.
Until more mission-specific information is confirmed beyond the identification reported by WLKY, the most durable takeaway for Kentucky is the public safety and communications value of clear identification of aerial objects, particularly when the visuals can prompt concern or calls to local media.
