The country music star was interred at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum alongside her husband of 60 years, Carl Thomas, in an intimate ceremony held Friday in Nashville.
Dolly Parton was laid to rest in a private funeral service in Nashville on Friday, her family confirmed, according to The Guardian. Parton, widely known as one of country music’s most prominent figures, died at age 80 on August 25 after what her family described as a brief battle with cancer.
Family members said the ceremony took place away from the public, with attendees limited to close family. Parton was interred at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum, a cemetery in Nashville where she will be buried next to her late husband, Carl Thomas, The Guardian reported.
The Guardian said Parton was buried alongside Carl Thomas, her husband of 60 years. The arrangements reflected a longstanding personal connection to Nashville, where Parton built much of her career and where her public life has remained closely tied to the city’s music and entertainment industry.
Parton’s death earlier this month prompted widespread public remembrance across the country music community and among fans, but the funeral itself was described as intentionally intimate. The Guardian noted that the family had confirmed the timing and location, while characterizing the service as private.
Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum has served as a burial site for multiple Nashville figures, and Parton’s interment there places her in the city’s long-running tradition of music and cultural legacy being preserved through formal memorial grounds.
With Parton now buried in Nashville, the immediate public focus is expected to shift to official memorial arrangements and any later services her family may schedule. The Guardian report centered on the Friday burial and did not include additional details on public gatherings, scheduled tributes, or the management of any public commemorations beyond the family-confirmed funeral.
The limited information available from the report underscores the family’s decision to handle final rites privately. For fans and industry figures, the next step will be waiting for further announcements from Parton’s family regarding any post-funeral tributes, statements, or commemorations that may follow.
