The web series, which follows an Iranian student’s move to Paris, was named best with audience votes at the Seriencamp festival, where organizers also reported record attendance in Cologne.
Arte’s Franco-Iranian web series “Happiness” has won the Audience Award at Seriencamp, according to Deadline. The prize marks a fresh milestone for the series as it continues to build an international audience ahead of its next release.
The series premiered with a presence at the Cologne-based event earlier this month, where it was also selected as a Deadline Global Breakout. The new Audience Award follows that early exposure, positioning “Happiness” as a standout in a festival program that emphasizes web and series storytelling aimed at broad cross-border audiences.
“Happiness” centers on an Iranian student who relocates to Paris. The story’s main cast includes Ghazal Shojaei, who plays the series’ lead character, as described in Deadline’s report on the festival win.
Seriencamp organizers also reported record attendance at the Cologne festival, as part of the broader wrap-up of this year’s event. Deadline did not provide specific attendance figures in the summary, but the outlet characterized the turnout as the highest on record.
“Happiness” is scheduled to launch its second season in about two weeks from the time of the report. The timing means the Audience Award lands close to the start of the next installment cycle for viewers and platforms planning their summer programming.
Deadline’s coverage frames the award as a sign of audience engagement with Franco-Iranian storytelling within the European digital series market. With the second season arriving shortly, the series’ festival success may also factor into how distributors and streaming audiences decide what to prioritize for release.
The Seriencamp Audience Award is one of the festival’s recognitions, determined by attendees, and reflects the tastes of viewers at the event rather than a jury evaluation. As the series moves into its next season, the immediate next step for viewers will be to watch the second-season release and see whether the audience response carries over into the new episodes.
