The writer and executive producer of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action adaptation will develop and produce original television projects for Paramount Television Studios under a new first-look arrangement, according to Deadline.
Paramount Television Studios has entered a first-look deal with writer and executive producer Christine Boylan, expanding the studio’s television development roster, Deadline reported on August 31, 2026. Under the pact, Boylan is set to develop and produce original series for the studio, giving Paramount the first opportunity to review and pursue projects she creates.
Boylan’s recent work includes serving as a writer and executive producer on Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, a role Deadline highlighted as part of her deal track. The first-look agreement positions her to translate that experience into new, not-yet-announced series aimed at Paramount’s broader television slate.
The reporting described the move as part of Paramount Television Studios’ continuing effort to add writers and producers to its slate. First-look deals typically work by granting a studio priority access to a creator’s developing projects, after which the studio can decide whether to move forward or pass.
Deadline’s exclusive report did not specify which genres Boylan’s first-look slate will target, what projects she may develop next, or whether any series from the deal have been formally ordered. The terms related to budget levels, number of projects, and time horizons were also not detailed in the article summary.
No additional production partners or rights holders were named in the provided description, and there was no mention of development timelines for any specific program. As with many studio first-look arrangements, the next phase for Boylan is expected to involve pitching, developing, and packaging new original concepts for Paramount’s consideration.
The appointment also comes amid ongoing competition among major studios and streamers for established writing and production talent. For Paramount Television Studios, the deal is another step in building the pipeline of projects available for development, internal production, and eventual series development decisions.
Deadline’s report included an accompanying image credit, but the supplied information did not include further statements from Paramount Television Studios or Boylan. Absent additional details, the practical effect is that Paramount will receive early access to Boylan’s new television work for evaluation as the studio continues assembling its series lineup.
