Lainey Mae Parton shared reflections on close moments with Dolly Parton, including early-morning phone calls and harmonizing connected to Parton’s “Smoky Mountain DNA” era, in a remembrance published as the singer was laid to rest.
Dolly Parton was laid to rest on a day that prompted new comments from family, according to a report from Fox News published Aug. 30. Her niece, Lainey Mae Parton, shared an emotional tribute to the singer she referred to as “Granny,” describing the personal bond she said shaped her memories and her own relationship to music.
In the tribute, Lainey Mae Parton recalled “4 AM calls” from Dolly Parton, a detail she used to convey an ongoing closeness rather than a distant celebrity presence. The niece said those early-morning interactions stood out as a form of routine connection, emphasizing how frequently the relationship, as she described it, remained part of everyday life.
Lainey Mae Parton also pointed to musical collaboration and shared performance as part of what she called her “Granny” legacy. She described singing together on Parton’s “Smoky Mountain DNA” album, tying the remembrance to a recent chapter of recorded work associated with the Parton brand.
The Fox News report framed the tribute as a family moment around Parton’s final arrangements, with the niece’s remarks functioning as a direct, first-person account of how Parton influenced her personally. While the account centered on family reflections and not formal statements from management or an official estate announcement, it placed the remembrance in the context of the singer’s public career and the music those memories accompanied.
In addition to her stated personal recollections, the tribute reinforced Parton’s wider cultural footprint by linking private memories to a specific album project. For fans and followers, that linkage to “Smoky Mountain DNA” provides a narrative bridge between the singer’s work and the family settings in which, according to Lainey Mae Parton, the music and bonds were nurtured.
The next public step will likely be a broader set of responses from industry partners and official channels, such as representatives for Parton’s releases and associated projects. Until additional details are confirmed in official or institutional records, the account remains focused on the niece’s described memories surrounding the time Parton was laid to rest.
