The entertainer posted a message on Instagram on August 29, extending condolences and highlighting a long personal connection through their shared agent, Sam Haskell.
Liza Minnelli joined a wave of tributes to Dolly Parton on August 29, posting a condolence message that she said was “devastating,” in reference to the week’s news about the country music star.
Minnelli’s post, which began with her familiar greeting “Hey Kids,” framed Parton not only as an admired performer but also as a trusted friend. She wrote that when Minnelli was dealing with personal trouble, Parton “knew it,” adding that Parton’s concern and awareness stood out to her.
Minnelli also recalled a professional link between the two entertainers, writing that she and Parton once shared the same agent, Sam Haskell. In her account, Haskell served as the connector between their careers, bringing them into overlapping professional circles.
The tribute appeared alongside the continued public attention surrounding Parton’s work and cultural influence, as major entertainers and artists posted their own reflections on social media following the latest developments.
Deadline reported that Minnelli’s message came as Parton-related tributes continued to circulate online, with fans and fellow celebrities expressing grief and gratitude. The report characterized Minnelli’s post as both personal and specific, tying Minnelli’s memories of difficult moments to Parton’s behind-the-scenes care.
A post of this kind typically plays a role in shaping public memory for major figures, particularly when the message includes concrete references, such as shared representation. In this case, Minnelli’s mention of Haskell and her emphasis on Parton’s knowledge of “trouble” provide a narrow, experience-based account rather than a general statement of admiration.
It was not immediately clear from the report what “trouble” Minnelli was referring to, beyond her characterization that Parton understood what was going on. Minnelli’s Instagram post remained the primary vehicle for the story’s details as published by Deadline.
The tribute adds to the growing set of public statements that can influence how audiences revisit an artist’s legacy, especially when they highlight interpersonal relationships in addition to career achievements.
