Deadline reports Oscar-winning producer Barrie M. Osborne is lining up the next big-screen fantasy effort after co-producing all three original Lord of the Rings films.
A producer credited on all three of the original Lord of the Rings films is now lining up a new large-scale fantasy movie titled Wars Of The Drakons, according to Deadline. The outlet’s report frames the project as an ambitious follow-up to a career that helped define modern big-budget fantasy filmmaking through a series of high-profile franchise and blockbuster credits.
Deadline identifies Barrie M. Osborne as the producer behind the new effort. Osborne is described as an Oscar winner and as one of only three producers credited with producing each of the original Lord of the Rings movies. The film series, which combined theatrical spectacle with a complex production footprint, helped anchor the contemporary fantasy feature template that major studios have since continued to rely on for audience reach and overseas sales.
In Deadline’s account, Osborne’s track record extends beyond Middle-earth. The producer has been credited with producing Face/Off and has also served as an executive producer on The Matrix, The Great Gatsby, and The Meg, a set of credits that spans action franchises, science fiction, and commercial dramas. Deadline positions that range as part of what is driving industry attention as Osborne moves toward a new fantasy property.
The report characterizes Wars Of The Drakons as a large-scale fantasy project, but it does not, in the material provided here, specify casting, a studio home, a release window, or a production start date. It also does not identify a writer, director, or financing structure. Any such details would be expected to emerge through later studio announcements, trades, or official production listings as development progresses.
Wars Of The Drakons also arrives at a time when major fantasy and franchise content continues to be a key segment for theatrical pipelines and streaming libraries. Large-scale fantasy projects require substantial creative development, visual effects planning, and marketing commitments, and they typically depend on clear long-term rights and distribution strategies from early stages. Osborne’s prior franchise experience is the core context offered by Deadline as it describes the next project.
Deadline’s exclusive reporting emphasizes Osborne’s role as the driver of the new film, rather than presenting Wars Of The Drakons as part of an established studio slate already publicly documented in the provided excerpt. For audiences and industry stakeholders, the near-term question is less about plot specifics and more about development momentum, including which companies will hold rights, attach creative leadership, and set budget parameters.
If and when Wars Of The Drakons advances, industry observers would expect the project to follow common large-production steps, including formal announcements about creative teams, scripting milestones, and production office locations. Rights and union-related processes are also typically triggered as soon as a film moves from general development into pre-production, though those procedural details were not included in the available report summary.
For now, Deadline’s report establishes the baseline: Barrie M. Osborne, an Oscar-winning producer with central credits on the original Lord of the Rings films, is pursuing a new large-scale fantasy feature, Wars Of The Drakons. Additional information about who will bring the story to screen, where it will be produced, and when it may reach audiences is expected as the project moves further into development.
