The Oscar-winning director discussed his new film’s premise about UFO evidence going public, and he reiterated his personal view that extraterrestrials have already visited Earth.
Steven Spielberg, the Oscar-winning director, said in a recent CBS News interview that aliens “have been here and they are here,” while promoting his new film, “Disclosure Day,” which explores what might happen if evidence about UFOs and alien life were released worldwide and widely accepted as real. The remarks were made during a June 8 appearance with CBS News timed to the release cycle of Spielberg’s 34th feature film, according to the network’s report.
In the interview, Spielberg connected his comments to the premise of “Disclosure Day,” a story built around a hypothetical global disclosure of extraterrestrial evidence. The CBS News segment frames the film as a question of public reaction and institutional response if the existence of nonhuman life were treated as fact rather than speculation.
Spielberg’s broader statements about extraterrestrials drew attention beyond the film’s storyline. In the CBS News coverage tied to the film, the director said his view is based on “circumstantial evidence,” as well as testimony he has followed over time, including statements he has said he heard in Congress. That CBS News report also described Spielberg as saying he thinks the visitations have already occurred and may have been ongoing.
The release of a high-profile Hollywood title that leans into extraterrestrial themes is likely to intersect with a wide range of audience expectations and media debate, particularly as public fascination with UFO accounts continues to generate headlines and policy discussions. “Disclosure Day” positions that interest as a mainstream entertainment concept, while Spielberg’s personal remarks bring the subject directly into the cultural conversation surrounding government records, public transparency, and public trust.
Spielberg has directed films across multiple genres and decades, and “Disclosure Day” continues his presence as a central figure in major-studio filmmaking. CBS News also described the film as Spielberg’s next feature following a long-running career that includes landmark science-fiction storytelling, placing the new project in the director’s ongoing engagement with the social impact of extraordinary claims.
As “Disclosure Day” moves through its marketing and release window, the director’s interview statements are likely to remain a focal point for coverage, particularly when media outlets and audiences distinguish between cinematic fiction, personal testimony, and claims about real-world evidence. For the film industry, the conversation also highlights how major creators can shape mainstream perceptions even when projects are presented as dramatic narratives.
CBS News and other outlets have continued to frame Spielberg’s comments through the lens of the film’s theme, emphasizing how the director ties his personal beliefs to the broader question of what disclosure could do to society if it were treated as verified information.
